Rockhounding Trip Sunday Feb 24

Date of Event: February 20, 2013

I finally got through to the Cheam Indian band and have been granted permission to access their land in Agassiz to get down to the big bar on the east side of Agassiz bridge on the Fraser for the day. Anyone interested can email me at keefematt@hotmail.com Bring: Lunch, water, warm clothes, walking stick or equivalent (some areas of the bar have loose rock), rain coat and hat (in case), own transportation. There is no toilet facility there, so bring what you need for the bushes. Any vehicle can make it to the bar. This bar is relatively flat, and has easy access for people with walking issues (no fence jumping or water to cross). I (Matt) will need someone to give me a lift there and back, as Jana has the car that day. If anyone can, let me know! I am in Coquitlam. We can all meet at the A&W/gas station parking area in Agassiz at 10 AM and head down to the bar at 10:30. So far, accuweather is calling for a chance of rain showers, so be prepared! The good thing about a bit of rain, is that the rocks tend to show their true colours! Materials to be found: Fraser Agate, Chantrelle Agate, Jasp-agate, Jasper, Chalcedony, Petrified wood (three kinds), serpentine, Banded gneiss, colourful quartzite, etc. Thanks, Matt Keefe keefematt@hotmail.com
